I was a little depressed because of not seeing any progress in my work and felt like being buried under tons of mud and dirt...
So I sat down in front of my computer, launched Blender and digged me a way out of this mess! ;)
I've created the environment completely parametric with Modifiers and Nodes because of flexibility. So when I put the arms into the scene i only had to modify a simple base-mesh without having any stretching issues etc.
The roots are made using the "Ivy Generator" on a flipped copy of the hole. For the materials I've modified some of the techniques Andrew Price came up with in his "Nature Academy". Only the Arms were done the hard way ;)
Thanks for your comments and Happy Blendeing

Very good work Stephan. And cheer up, things have to go better.
Stephen,
You are not alone in that feeling my friend. Your work speaks to the fact it can't keep you down for long...
Great job, man!
The concept and composition is fantastic. The angle, design, etc - super! Great work all the way around!
Don't be discouraged , From someone who feel's that way quite a lot , i love this! Fantastic work.
Have you submitted this work to the cgsociety.org's gallery for finished works?
Yes, but nothing happens... It seems as if they are sleeping ;)
I think i'll resubmit it...
I suggest you make an online documentation available for this work that can prove that you really made this work with Blender. I think the moderators for the gallery will be ashamed if they have to reject your work as unfit for their gallery. :)
Nice idea! Holidays are near so i'll keep an eye on that...
Really awesome. I would be intimidated if i had to make an environment like that.
Reminds me a lot of "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark". Very good!
really well done, a very unique piece of art. Congratulations!
looks awesome! gotta say I'm inspired
