Peach Interviews: Nathan Vegdahl

20

nathan.jpgLast week I visited the Blender Institute in Amsterdam, where I had a chance to talk to the members of the Peach team (and a member of Apricot as well!). I taped my conversations with them and for the next week, we'll publish one interview each day. Today part two: Nathan Vegdahl, Peach Lead Artist.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. When I went to the BI in December, Nathan was the most interesting guy to talk to. His rigs are awesome (it's interesting to hear that he isn't happy with them!) and he was very happy to talk me through them.

Can't wait to get my hands on those blends!

  2. While I can download off both vimeo and google video they have problems. i.e. they don't like resuming which I need to do on my slower internet connection. googlevideo often times out causing restarts every few minutes and vimeo says file not found if you pause it for more than 4 minutes. Therefore I would recommend to upload it to blip.tv which offers both flash streaming and .flv download along with the original .mov file (or whatever you uploaded it in) without registration.

  3. Not sure if people will keep checking the Ton interview, so this is a bit of a doublepost:

In short, I'm subtitling it and I cleaned up the sound considerably. http://dotsub.com/films/blendernationpeach

THIS video I'm really looking forward to watching but I want to try and finish subtitling Ton's first. There's so much awesome stuff he talks about that I didn't even know he was saying until I was forcing myself to subtitle it!!!

  4. Nice interviews, both this one and the last one.

And by the way, I always think of it as de dwagonz, like the way Elmer Fudd would say "the dragons"...

  5. @toastbusters Maybe just promise me that you'll proofread mine. There are words I don't know and names I don't know how to spell and usernames I'm not familiar with.

  6. I'll look at it as soon as I see it posted. I'll agree that there's a lot of good info there that most people will miss, I'm just curious if the stunts reel thing was sarcasm or if he's serious.
