Paul, I have been watching since you started, and you need our thanks for sharing your process. You are an inspiration sir, and I felt it necessary to say….keep it up! You are definitely getting there!
Poly by poly is so messy.
I appreciate your input but I cannot stand Poly by poly modelling.
Play with Quad, triangle and vertices this is definitly not my learning style as
I am an impatient artist.
Howerver I will buy your DVD has I am surely there will be lots to learn from.
Will you be targetting 2.5 soon?

Amazing tutorial good sir! You totally pulled a head out of your . . . uh . . bag of low-poly heads yeah thats it!
ha ha jokes aside. This was really cool you modelled a head fast and simply I learned some techniques and I was inspired to model! And in the end thats what I like to think a tutorial is all about! I don’t know if you know or not but ctrl+R will give you a loop cut much faster than k and while you still have that pink/purple line scroll up or down to increase or decrease the number of cuts. Cant wait till’ the next installation have a great one!

I wanted to comment on all of this poly to poly stuff
I actually prefer poly to poly it really adds a level of detail and control while the model is being created while I don’t think any method is better than another I do find poly by poly the most stimulating and fun.

I’ll admit: poly-to-poly is sometimes tedious, but it illustrates how the flow of the polys work for beginners. I will be doing two other head-modeling tutorials utilizing two other methods (one involving sculpting, the other involving building up from a sub-divided cube, which I always like, cos it’s pretty quick) – possibly for the DVD but we’ll see over the next few months how things progress.
@pixNolve – perhaps not with this character, because 2.5 is still a little buggy and crashes on occasion, making my workflow a tad hard to document, but I am certainly considering it for the extra DVD content (ie: two other characters created from scratch using different techniques)
@TheGrayK – cheers for the tip! will begin to try that from now on. Look out for that trick in the up-coming tutorials on refining the meshes (April-May)
@To Animation Lover: linking lines (or edges) together to make a face is the same as linking two vertices to make an edge: hit the F key.
@Everyone so far: The responses for a potential DVD release have been so positive. I am planning it out. These tutorials, while comprehensive, are going to be the tip of the iceberg. I really want to pack in something you feel worth a small fee (I can promise, it WILL be small!)
