Rainy day in the forest

Idea came while i was at hiking tour. Wanted to try to get that wet moss feeling. Blender 2.71, Cycles, GPU .

    How did you create the moss?
    I've tried several times, but never come close to your result.
    Not asking for at tutorial, just a quick description :-)

    It wasn't easy. spend quite lot of time just on experiments. I guess the key is having more than one hair system with with different textures for color, density, length.
    At time of making SSS wasn't available on GPU (i'm not sure if its available now) so after lots of tries i figured out shortcut for that. Separate shader for diffuse light path with very bright green color. That gave the desired "wetness" to the moss. Of Course in combination with other gloss and translucency shaders.
