Bart Veldhuizen I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I've yet to be able to get my glare to look like that. How were you able to get smaller glares with the larger size of the sun? Mine glare always shows up too big.
I've just posted a screenshot on my blog (link under image above) showing the fairly complex compositing setup for the original comp of this graphic. Basically I'm using multiple dilate/erode nodes and pushing the sun geometry back visually to effectively make it look a lot smaller. And then adding this over the top of the sun with the glare effect applied to it. Blendercookie have a really good compositing tute by Porter Nielsen 'Creating a scene from space', which address some of the techniques I used. However I can't remember if he uses the dilate technique. Would love to see some more flare and glare nodes/options in Blender :-)
