Commodore 64 Nostalgia

4

By John Malcolm.

This image started with me wanting to quickly model a Commodore 64 and ended up becoming a bit of a nostalgia-fest containing other things I loved at the time and which I had in my bedroom many moons ago*.

The Commodore 64 was my second every computer and I spent countless hours playing Elite on it.

All assets were created from scratch in Blender. Most texturing (like the keyboard symbols) was created in Photoshop and a wee bit of grunge was applied here and there in Substance Painter. Obviously I used some images that I did not create myself, so I'd credit David Braben and Ian Bell for the Elite screen, The Cult and Beggars Banquet for the Love poster, Rodney Matthews for his awesome poster (Another Time Another Place) and Chaosium for the Runequest box art.

*I have been reliably informed my bedroom never looked this clean and tidy.

  1. I cut my teeth on a C64 back in the day -- a brand new one with floppy drive was my graduation present from high school -- took it to college with me -- lotsa good memories -- my dad typed in the machine code for the original version of wordperfect (r) over several months out of Compute (r) Magazine. Lotta the way I think still goes back to structured basic (thats scary)
    Beautiful Job

C64 was my second computer - an upgrade from the Vic-20. I too spent days typing in programs from computer magazines and trying to write my own programs too. It's amazing when you look at how far we've come in terms of home computing and the power available to us now.
