Blender Workshop in Milwaukee, WI – April 7th
Discovery World, a technology museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is offering a 3 night workshop covering 3D Design on a budget, as a part of our DIY Media series. The class consists of 3 two hour sessions starting on April 7th, which cover will the basics of creating 3D graphics for a variety of mediums. These workshops are being taught by 2005 Suzanne Award winner, Chris Larkee.
“Expand your skill set and learn to build, texture, and render any character or object with 3D graphics. Develop new skills you can use to create motion graphics, illustrations, video game mods, or simple animations for short films. This class will focus on free professional open source software, allowing you to continue your projects at home with the computer you have.”

Wow, this is great!! I’m right here in Milwaukee. It’s great to see this kind of thing here. I’ve actually been thinking about doing this myself, but you beat me to it. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only Blenderhead in Milwaukee.
The course looks like it’s a little basic for me at this point, but I wish you well. I’ll be glad to tell people about it!!

Well I am in Milwaukee as well. Being a long time professional artists I doubt I would need the workshop myself, but having this kind of stuff is great. I might stop by.
So little info!
I went to the website and there is no more information there than there is here.
I.E: Class size, whether there are computers available or do you have bring a laptop or is this a lecture
only type of class, topics to be covered and so on and so forth. To bad, I only live 50 miles away. I would have been interested if this had been presented in a more professional manner but if this is any indication of the professionalism of the instructor I’ll pass.

The class will be taught in a computer lab with 15 seats, all Apple Power Macs. If anyone wanted to work off of their laptop, that is fine with me.
The class is target at a beginner/intermediate crowd. I’m expecting most people who sign up for it to have some experience in graphic design, but no experience in 3-D graphics. However, I’ve done classes like this before, and I always get surprised about the backgrounds of people who sign up. The classes are usually small enough and the times are long enough that I can spend a lot of time working with the attendees on a personal level to make sure they get what they want out of it.
I’d encourage people who already have a good start with Blender to sign up and come to the workshop, because it should be a great way to meet other Blenderheads in the area. I have experience with the more advanced stuff like coding for the game engine or fancy noding, so I can cover that if someone wants it. I’m sure there’s something we can all learn from each other.
It’s good to see all this Milwaukee support on this thread; maybe this should lead to regular meetups in MKE.
We can definetely schedule meetups in Milwaukee. I will be up for it.
Also if you want to organize a mixed workshop I might join as well. I am a digital sculptor illustrator with experience in games, films etc. I use pretty much all the applications on the market including Blender.
Do you think this’ll be a good experience for networking? I would classify myself as a more advanced blender user, but I’m thinking of signing up anyway just to meet other blender users…
I would definitely be in for a meetup in MKE.
