Overgrown: a Feature Film Project by Blender Studio

Co-directors Hjalti Hjálmarsson and Rik Schutte set the scene of OVERGROWN in a post-human robo-apocalyptic world reclaimed by nature. As the unlikely family duo [editor’s note: unclear what this duo is, but we’ll see] survives in the brave new world, their adventure unfolds into a fast-paced river of hardship, wonder, and personal transformation.

This project statement resonates with me as a pretty strong statement against the abundant genAI slop that’s starting to appear everywhere:

This project is not only about making the feature film itself, but also about documenting and sharing the production process and knowledge.

We want to see filmmakers worldwide building on top of it and steering the industry back to human-forward art with a heart.

It’s possible to be productive today while staying true to the craft, and the production of a feature film is Blender Studio’s way to prove it.
