Marques Brownlee: “I shrunk down into an M5 chip” – Produced in Blender

Marques Brownlee and Epic Spaceman collaborated on a super interesting video that gives you a real sense of the scale and complexity of modern CPUs.
Marques has a huge YouTube Channel where he typically reviews new devices, cars and other technology. This video is a bit atypical for him – not only is it more scientific, but it’s also entirely produced in Blender! This production is a collaboration with Epic Spaceman who has already created a bunch of, well, Epic videos about space and the universe. If you want to learn more about Epic Spaceman (or Toby), check out this interview.
I found this video super interesting to watch – especially once I knew it was made in Blender so I started thinking about how it was done. You can see a fair bit of 3D scanning/photogrammetry artefacts, but for me that only added to the ‘super tiny’ sense of these videos. In one scene Marques was walking around in marble-sized ‘atoms’, while surrounding objects were super crisp and neat – that actually broke the illusion a bit. In addition, there’s a fair bit of motion capture going on, which nicely conserved Marques’ usual communication style with lots of hand gestures. All in all, I found this a super neat production, well worth watching. Enjoy!

This is the twin video of the one above, continuing to explore the insane complexity of CPUs.

This video was really nicely done, thanks for sharing Bart!
