You Asked, I Built It: 17 New Features for Roads & Streets in Blender

And with all the new updates — from water and damage effects to vehicles, animations, and performance tools — it’s time to take a look at everything that’s been added.

More realistic material behavior

  • The most requested features from last year are finally here: wet materials and damaged asphalt.
  • The new water parameters provide realistic dry patches, subtle puddles, and adjustable surface roughness.
  • On top of that, there are nineteen types of sidewalk materials, new green strip options, and the ability to import your own textures for complete creative freedom.

New assets, animations, and presets

  • The Roads Must Roll now includes new intersection presets (including two roundabouts), an independent traffic animation curve, and ten additional bridge pillars.
  • Vehicles received rotating wheels, adjustable light intensity, and optional low-poly drivers.
  • For commercial licenses, up to twelve fully integrated vehicles have been added — all optimized for performance and variation.

Better workflow and higher performance

  • To keep your workflow smooth, there are low-poly proxies for vehicles and trees, optimized textures, and a new procedural “Island” asset.
  • Motion blur is now more consistent, and there are many small improvements that make the entire workflow more professional and efficient.
  • One thing is certain: The Roads Must Roll has made an impressive leap forward in just one year.
