BlenderKit Release notes 3.17.0

We’re excited to announce the release of BlenderKit 3.17.0!

This update brings major improvements to the Asset Bar — including forward/backward navigation and better drag-and-drop to collections — along with numerous bug fixes and full support for Blender 5.0.0-alpha. While we don’t recommend uploading assets from pre-release Blender versions, we highly encourage you to give Blender 5.0.0-alpha a try.

  • Performance improvements
  • Forward and backward navigation — Added navigation buttons to the Asset Bar, allowing smooth browsing through your search history by @vilemduha.
  • Expandable Asset Bar — A new button in the bottom-right corner lets you expand or minimize the Asset Bar. Set the number of rows in the Maximized Asset Bar Rows option under Preferences. The previous fixed-row setting has been removed.

  • Improved drag & drop — Enhanced drag-and-drop with parenting in the 3D View and Outliner. Hold Shift to drop and set a parent, or drop normally to add directly into a collection.
  • Geometry Nodes dialog — When dropping Geometry Nodes, a dialog now lets you choose whether to add them as a Modifier or a Node Group.
  • Filter panels for Nodegroups and Printables — New filter panels make it easier to refine searches for these asset types.
  • ‘Order by’ search option — Added a sorting option to filters. Results can now be ordered by newest/oldest, number of bookmarks, score, quality, or working hours by @agajdosi.
  • Hide Sidebar Panels — A new preference hides BlenderKit from the N-panel for a cleaner interface. Note that features like Upload or Append Settings become unavailable until the panel is re-enabled.
  • Automatic asset name fill — When uploading, if the asset name field is empty, it now auto-fills with the active object’s name — saving a few clicks.
  • Clearer locked asset text — Improved messaging for locked full-plan assets to better explain what’s required for download.

Bug Fixes

  • Minor scale drift fix — Fixed an issue where very small scale deviations (e.g., 0.999998) caused upload failures despite Blender displaying 1.0. Such values are now automatically rounded for seamless uploads.
  • Blender 5.0 compatibility — Disabled scene.world.use_nodes calls that caused errors in Blender 5.0. The add-on now fully supports Blender 5.0.0-alpha.
  • Shortcut interference — Fixed an issue where shortcuts could trigger while typing in text fields.

and much more….

Happy blending,
The BlenderKit team
