Bits of Blender #72 – A REAL 3-button Mouse!

John R. Nyquist doesn’t like clicking on his mousewheel and went online to find a mouse with just 3 regular buttons :)
When working in Blender, you use all three buttons on a mouse. Yet most mice have two buttons and a scroll wheel (which I hate clicking).
In my latest episode of Bits of Blender I share my discovery of good ol’ fashioned 3-button mouse, reminiscent of my days teaching Java for Sun Microsystems and working on Sun workstations.
This is not a paid endorsement, just news of a cool mouse I found to use with Blender 🤠 You can get the Elecom mouse from Amazon here.

I would kinda like a mouse with a third button but also a scroll wheel for the thumb, my razer mouse actually has a solid space for where a scroll wheel could go there below the buttons, would actually be so nice, i hate scrolling with my index finger, used to rapidly thumb scrolling on my phone now
I agree, that sounds good. It’d be convenient to have and I wouldn’t have to click it.

I like it, it sounds like what Dilroop was describing. Do you have one of those also?
thats nice, might give it a try, i do use my middle mouse button a ton and hate accidentally scrolling

The Contour Unimouse has 3 buttons and a scroll wheel. It’s ergonomically designed, so that the upper surface is sloped and comes in both left and right handed models. It is also very expensive, at USD$99 before tax. But I swear by mine! Here’s the Amazon link for the right-handed model:

Nice! I didn’t see that one!
My first unimouse lasted a little over four years, until the scroll wheel began to fail; that seems to be the weakest component on many brands of mice. I’m now two years into uni mouse #2.
Since you bought a second, it sounds like you’d recommend it also, right?
Absolutely! Here’s the Contour video about their mouse.

Have you seen these from 3DConnexion? Best of both with a dedicated middle button & a scroll wheel & several variations available.

Their CAD mice look nice and fit the bill, although I think I’d be tempted to click that scroll wheel given its position Do you have one? Do you recommend it? I’ve wondered about their Space Mouse since Blender supports NDOF input, but it’s quite expensive.
I use one, especially for blender. I can highly recommend it. It is not curved too high under the hand and is working very reliably and precisely. For me the best mouse I ever had – starting from Amiga-Mouse ;-).
