Video: AKIRA in 3D

Yak of Art recreated part of Akira, the iconic animated cyberpunk action film by Katsuhiro Otomo from 1988. This reminded me I need to watch it again!

This personal project started early last year and grew into something much bigger and more special. My goal with this project was to simply capture the feeling I felt when watching the original anime film. It’s a fanart and a homage to the incredible world of Neo-Tokyo created by Otomo.

Created using Blender 3D, rendered in Eevee, and edited in Resolve.

A lot of the models were made by me, but additional models and textures came from: Big Medium Small, Polyhaven and Sketchfab.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!).
