Bonsai (previously BlenderBIM Add-on) v0.8.0 has been released with over a thousand new features and fixes. Bonsai is an add-on for Blender that provides native IFC and OpenBIM authoring for architects, engineers, and construction professionals.

The highlights include:

  • Rebranding to Bonsai, from the BlenderBIM Add-on
  • Support for IFC4X3, infrastructure and linear construction geometry
  • Upgrade to IfcOpenShell v0.8.0, with improved packaging, and experimental support for CGAL and hybrid OpenCASCADE + CGAL geometry kernels
  • New experimental wall polyline tool, with improved icons for the wall tool
  • New measurement tool
  • Overhauled georeferencing system supporting federation of models using global coordinate systems and support for WCS
  • BCF version 3 support
  • New web interface for live data spreadsheets, gantt charts, cost plans, and browsing drawing sheets.
  • Experimental light luminance simulation with Radiance
  • New solar analysis tool based on the sun position add-on
  • Blender 4.2 support
