Making a Giant Sci-fi Bear Cub Robot in Blender

0

Polyfjord created this Sci-fi robot in just three days. Follow the process from concept art to finishing in this video!

The three main steps Polyfjord followed in the process described in the video are:

  1. Finding and Commissioning Concept Art: He used Fiverr to find a concept artist specializing in futuristic robots. He selected an artist, Milton Mascara, and commissioned a design. After receiving three drafts, he chose one and used the final concept art as inspiration for his 3D model.
  2. Modeling the Sci-Fi Robot in Blender: Using the concept art as a reference, he began modeling the robot in Blender. He started with the basic shape using the skin modifier, then refined the design, focusing on creating a detailed and interesting silhouette. He added modular components, lighting effects, and additional details to bring the robot to life.
  3. Finalizing and Rendering the Design: After completing the robot model, he placed it in a sci-fi facility scene, which he modeled separately. He spent additional time tweaking the environment and details before rendering the final scene, resulting in a cinematic presentation of the finished robot.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
