Light Painter: How the Add-on Came to Be

2

Spencer Magnusson's popular Light Painter add-on is really quite amazing: it lets you interactively add lights and shadows to your scenes. Draw where you want the light to affect, and Light Painter adds and places the light for you.

Given its popularity, Spencer decided to share a little history of the add-on, as well as share some nerdy details.

You can download the add-on here (it's free!), and if you want to contribute to it, have a look on its Blender Projects page.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
