The long-term support versions of 4.2 and 3.6 (the last supported long-term 3.x) received an update today.
While the 3.6 update only contained 6 updates, focused mainly on import/export (STL/PLY and Collada) and rendering, the 4.2 update was more massive with 140 fixes, enhancements, and bug resolutions across various features and functionalities in Blender 4.2. Highlights include:
- Build and Installation: Added missing ROCm installation steps and resolved issues related to legacy add-ons and extensions during installation and updates.
- Animation and Geometry Nodes: Fixes for crashes related to specific node operations, issues with 'spline tentacle' generation in Rigify, and problems with Geometry Nodes, such as crashes and incorrect outputs.
- User Interface and Usability: Addressed multiple UI inconsistencies, crashes, and regressions, including problems with the 3D viewport, VSE (Video Sequence Editor), graph editor, and text input/rendering issues.
- Rendering and Materials: Fixed rendering issues, including NaN pixels in Cycles passes, incorrect shadow linking, and problems with EEVEE materials and Cryptomatte passes.
- Add-ons and Extensions: Enhanced add-on and extension management, including resolving issues with filters, installation errors, and dependencies.
- File Import/Export: Resolved crashes and bugs in file import/export processes, including Collada, Alembic, and STL formats.
- Performance and Stability: Numerous crash fixes related to different operations, including Wayland, viewport tools, sculpting, and compositor node operations.
- Miscellaneous: Addressed memory leaks, improved snap symbols, and fixed various other small bugs affecting specific workflows.
