While showstoppers and bombastic new features often take the limelight of Blender's development coverage, they are by no means the only improvements Blender gets during it's development cycles. In fact, a big chunk of daily additions comes in the form of usability improvements and fixing papercuts, to make the overall experience of using Blender better.
This latest commit by UX extraordinaire Pablo Vazquez is one such patch, adding the ability to turn on auto smooth and adjust its angle via the shade smooth operator panel, where before the option had to be activated after some light menu diving.

It's often those tinier time-saving touches that give Blender its best usability.
Way to go!
Hi. Could you point me to the dev post on this topic so that I can make a comment? Object Smooth shading needs to have an on/off option in prefs for all newly created objects.
