Hey BlenderNation -- got a pretty simple video here today where we'll take an old CAD model and build an exploded view animation from it. Use any model you like but I will be importing a OBJ from Fusion 360!
Enjoy!

Really love Derek's video's!! He has such great and practical videos and he has a really great style.
Hi Derek, thanks for sharing this. I am as well working with large CAD machine models for our particle accelerators. Our engineers are working with CATIA mostly, where the most reliable export of a whole machine with the sub objects (down to screw level) is STEP. I found the tool GLOVIUS (costly but versatile) which can read many CAD formats and can export to OBJ and 3DS (and Stil which bakes all objects in the model into one point cloud). Do you have experience with large CAD files and steper? My typical STEP file sizes are in the order of some hundred MB. Is steper able to digest such large files?
Hello Wolfgang, I also work with step import. My largest imported file so far was 580MB. It was possible to import it without any problems. The part tree was imported as well. I hope this helps you.
