Decentraland Joins Blender Developer Fund

5

Decentraland has just joined the Blender Development Fund as a Patron Member! This is the latest addition to the ever-increasing roster of tech-giants throwing their hat in Blender's open source ring, with this latest contender holding the special mention of being the first ever crypto-native project to do so.

Decentraland, which aims to be a fully decentralized virtual world governed by its members, made the decision to become a Patron member of Blender's Development Fund in a recent town hall meeting through its DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).

On a a press release on the Blender blog, Blender Foundation chairman Ton Roosendaal announced the news and re-iterated Blender's commitment to empowering artists and creators worldwide, notably to access open metaverse initiatives on the web.

Keep in mind that donations to the Blender Development fund in no way grant control over Blender or its development, and it is just that: A donation towards the foundations goals and development roadmap.

  1. Amazing to see Open Source projects supporting each other. Happy to be part of both Decentraland and Blender communities :D

  2. > Keep in mind that donations to the Blender Development fund in now way grant control over

Typo, now should be no I think.

  3. It's a shame that so few people understand the concepts of "open source", "nonprofit", and "donation" that the Blender Foundation now has to include that silly disclaimer to reassure people Blender isn't in danger of being bought out or otherwise controlled by nefarious third parties every time a company joins the dev fund.

Personally, I love hearing that Blender has another major donor.
