Graphic Novel Made with Blender and Photoshop

Hello Blenderheads, I wanted to share a project with everyone. I began illustrating my novel using Blender and Photoshop and making little animations to try and promote the project. Along the way I discovered that I really enjoy the graphic novel format. So I'm creating an abridged version of Dark Swarm as a graphic novel. I've released the first three chapters on webtoons.com. And will release the following chapters as I create the art.

The wonderful thing about using Blender is that I can achieve a level of consistency with my characters that I have never been able to do before. I render many of the characters in 3-D space, most of the backgrounds in 3-D and 2-D space, add grease pencil elements as well as render a freestyle pass on top of everything. Then I take the raw image which is always a little flat and weird and pop it into Photoshop. I paint over the characters and use filters in a graphical style that is a little messy and repair any parts of the mesh that got twisted or messed up (which can be a lot because my meshes are basic) I then adjust contrast and curves and balance and hue getting the image to POP! I add the text and, boom it's done. Check it out here!

Subscribe to webtoons.com too and don't miss the next chapters. It's gonna get crazy!! :)

  1. Very cool! Great story so far I read and the framing is awesome.

After clicking the link I got an age verification and was then brought to the wrong page. I had to go back and click the link again and then it went to the correct page.
