Creating a fireflies effect with geometry nodes

3

I followed ‘Fireflies!’ by Default Cube today. It has a nice pace and I enjoyed the ‘mood’ of the speaker who makes plenty of jokes. The effect isn’t perfect as the fireflies will intersect with the emitter object sometimes, but it’s a useful enough effect. Also, I think something changed in geometry nodes recently that stopped the fireflies from following the model around when I moved it, but I sorted that out quickly enough.

All in all a fun and quick tutorial.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
