How to turn anyone into a 3D Character With Your Smartphone (Fast)

This is my first proper tutorial for scanning and animating real people. Although this video is aimed at users with 3D experience, I hope to get my workflow across to everyone in a very short amount of time.

First off, it took a couple tries with Polycams Photomode to capture a human being. The best result is achieved in an evenly lit environment with high contrast areas on the subject. A dark shirt on white skin for example is easier to read for the algorithm. As you can see in the tutorial, polycam still struggles with human face, so don't bother with it. Polycam comes with a monthly subscription.

To circumvent the horrific face scan, I've chosen Bellus 3D Face App to scan my head seperately and just stick it on top of my body scan. Each export costs 1 dollar.

To clean the mesh I've used the Smooth & Flatten Tool in Blenders Sculpt Mode.
The texture paint copy tool / clone stamp works great for cleaning a 3d scanned texture.
As mentioned at the end of the video: Do not forget to save your textures!
I've learned this the hard way!

There are many ways to rig a character but for this project I went with Mixamo.
Mixamo requires an Adobe Account but not an active subscription, so basically even a beginner can quickly grasp the concept of rigging and try it for themselves.
Download some basic animation and you're done!

I hope you guys find this entertaining and helpful!

Thanks for reading/watching!
