Grease pencil lettering tutorial: animate text to draw in, watercolor style and script fonts

Hello!

As a big fan of grease pencil, pretty handwriting, and getting Blender to do all the work for me, I made this 2 part tutorial about adding fonts to Blender and using grease pencil’s build modifier to animate them to “draw in”.

Part 1 covers:

  • How I add fonts to Blender and convert them to grease pencil
  • A quick way to animate the letters to be drawn in (ideal for big bodies of text, less so for titles)

Part 2 covers:

  • How to use layer masking to get a watercolor style, with softer gradients and varying opacities
  • A more involved way to animate the letters, BUT with better results (perfect for titles!) - including 4 different animation options.

Part 2 is actually thanks to a comment on the first video that opened up a whole new world of possibility for me. I’m so grateful for this community.

And of course, there are always many ways to do something in Blender, this is just what works for me and what I find opens up the most possibilities for animating the letters :)

Hope this is helpful!
