GSoC 2021 Roundup Part 1: Geometry Nodes edition

Every year, dedicated students contribute to Blender’s development through the Google Summer of Code program. This always makes September a special time for me, as I get to write roundups of the resulting project, celebrating the students’ work and Blender’s community driven development in general.

In a post appearing on the Blender Developers Blog, I start this years four-part roundup by covering Fabian Schempp’s and Himanshi Kalra’s awesome projects contributing to Geometry Nodes. Fabian’s “Porting popular modifiers to Geometry Nodes” project saw him contributing no less than nine new nodes slated to be merged with master, while Kalra’s Regression Testing of Geometry Nodes makes sure that the development of this young project can be maintained and expanded without breaking things.
