Art Spotlight: Radiostation "SEVER"

1

3D Artist Yaraslau Gainensky shares his technique for creating a retro-looking radio using Blender and Substance Painter.

Hi, my name is Yaroslav. I'm 28 years old, I'm from Minsk (Belarus). Until last year I had no experience in 3D. Last year I had enough free time to think about: "I've always wanted to figure it out," and "Why not?".

I decided to take a course in 3D modeling. I wanted to understand how 3D models are made and be able to do everything by myself. I decided to choose an uncomplicated model to go through the entire pipeline and assess my capabilities and speed.

This Soviet radio is my first full pipeline, game-ready model, done at the end of the course.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

I feel the model is truly exeptionally made and it's seem impossible it has been made with a so limited experience. My compliments to the young Yaruslav and the drawing school he attnded to.
