Here's a lovely short by sirwilliamwindmill.
For the past couple of weeks I've been working on the first episode of Samurai Sushi, an Idea I've had in the back of my mind for a while. I have a slightly convoluted day to day work and often I don't get to drive the projects I animate, this is something I did on my free time to scratch that creative itch. I'll do more of it the plan is to do a 10 episode first season with this short format.
I feel so creatively supported by Blender, this was done almost entirely on it , except the compositing where I used Davinci Resolve.
If there's interest I can upload a bit more of the process but it's amazing being able to storyboard, model light and render in the same software, I also wrote some custom pipeline for handling all the assets and options using the early access of Production Alchemy, that's what really made it so this took a week to animate not a few months.
About the story, Miyamoto Mushi is a Ronin samurai, meditating away, when tragedy strikes he must chose if he's ready to face the evil that lies beyond the mountains.
All the visual elements of this are meant to be origami or man made objects, for example some of the walls are pictures from a table mat I have here at home, and the trees are from a paper craft book simulated with the sculpt brush, of course all the hands are drawn with grease pencil.
So join me in this journey! Episode 02 will be coming soon with some new characters.
