I’ve been a motion-graphics artist, video editor & 3D effects creator for almost twenty years, working full time since 2001, and freelance since 2008. I’ve worked on several corporate campaigns, TV commercials, web-videos, showreels and media branding packages for clients such as Nickelodeon, Saachi & Saachi, and Leo Burnett. I run a Patreon page to teach illustrators how to use Blender so they can create assets for their own projects.

This looks great. I'm more interested in drawing than modelling, though I need both. How much is the course?

    • Hi David! For a few days more, the course is $7USD - 30% discount for launch week. It then reverts to the full (but still bargain) price of $10USD. It is also part of Canopy Games' bundle of Blender courses for $19USD so depending on whether you just want to learn Grease Pencil, or a whole bunch of Blender stuff, it should suit most everybody.

      • I see no option to ask a question on the Canopy Games site, so I'll ask it here: is it possible to download the lectures? My connection is too unstable to stream the video's.

        • Hi Igor, if you're an enrolled student, you will be able to comment on any lesson. Unfortunately, I cannot make the video content downloadable, sorry. The content can be streamed at a lower resolution.

  2. Like the look of the course. But I was wondering what's the difference between enrolling and one time purchase. Does enrolling mean I would be having a monthly charge of$7?

  3. It's one charge - not monthly. $7 is the launch week price (only a couple days left) and then it reverts to $10.

    • No, this is a course about Illustrating with the Grease Pencil (it's in the title). I don't cover animation at all. Animation is its own massive subject. This course will give you the basics of using Grease Pencil - how all the tools work, how to create an illustration, but I do not cover animation in this course.

      • Okay I understand. I had only hoped to find everything in one course.

(I recently tried it on my own. I thought learning grease pencil would be easy, but it's so different from the rest of blender. It also involves tons of pages full of text in the blender manual. It was disappointing and I gave up very quickly.)

One step at a time then. I'm going to enroll your course and we'll see what else I can do afterwards regarding animation ...

        • I did consider it, but a few factors came into play.

Firstly, there are so many artists who are better animators than me. I can certainly teach the basics (here is how you keyframe, here is how you do onion skinning, etc) but a really comprehensive course will give you a good understanding of the principles of animation. Taking a course from a skilled animator who can talk you through timing, squash and stretch, etc would be so much more rewarding.

In comparison, I decided to make it an illustration course - since I know a bit about that - so I focused on sketching, refining pencils, inking, coloring, etc - all the principles of creating an illustration.

That said, you will get a solid understanding of Grease Pencil's toolkit, and what it is capable of. Hopefully I'm not over-explaining myself here! A fair question, and one that deserves to be clarified, for sure.
