Hey guys, I wanted to share with you the design principles document which helped Mark Kingsnorth and I create SYNTH. It's a free PDF and goes over some of my thoughts on creating successful sci fi designs.
KIT OPS PRO lets you create your own KIT OPS kitbash elements, which we call "INSERTS" and with KIT OPS FREE you can use existing libraries of INSERTS.
The idea behind SYNTH is to create a tool that algorithmically places INSERTS directly into and onto objects. So, for instance, you can create this space station interior using the default cube and only 1-click.
My background is Industrial Design, and I've worked for over 30 years consulting with companies like Apple, NASA, Disney, Dreamworks, and Nvidia to name a few. And over this time, I've always been interested in what makes a design "special" and if any of it can be automated. While it's a huge topic, and one many designers may feel uncomfortable talking about, it's important especially when trying to understand machine generated design.
While SYNTH is not yet an AI approach to form generation, it does allow for creating some really fast and unique designs automatically. And, left unattended, it can create hundreds of them over your lunch hour.
This PDF will provide you with some of the guiding principles used in the creation of sci fi designs and SYNTH. I hope some of you will find some value in it. I plan on adding to it in the future and will keep folks posted.
