Lately, I cannot live without SSGI in Eevee. Even tho I upgraded my PC, and thought I will get back to Cycles I often find Eevee results better in the terms of image composition/lighting. But almost always I use SSGI.

I wonder when it will become standart part of Blender builds.

I read your reasons for delay and no one not least you should apologise. I hope you will be able to get the right treatment for your hands and also wish your parent well and hopefully all of you will be vaccinated soon.

Take care and stay safe. Come back when you're ready, we will all be here to enjoy your tutorials.

  3. It took me almost a year to stop turning my nose up at Cycles versus Blender Internal. BI would render quickly, and would give me predictable results. Cycles would take forever, but despite clearly being able to get better results, it would be horribly grainy.
Hopping from Cycles to Eevee has a similar learning curve, but at least you don't have to worry about speed. WYSIWIG is awesome that way.

What we sometimes forget is that Cycles is nearly 10 years old now and came out when things were far slower for blender, while EEVEE is still in its infancy, suffering from the growing pains, in an environment where blender has a lot more stuff going on. And despite that, it manages to put out really good results, most of the time really comparable to cycles. Yes, it requires a bit of tweaking here and there, some cycles features are still not available (most notably for me, shader displacement), but it will all surely be ironed out soon.

All in all, EEVEE should be hailed as a major breakthrough, especially when compared to what old BI could do. I for one, back in the day, was one of those to dread the plans for adopting cycles as de default renderer and ditch BI entirely. EEVEE made all those fears go away.
