Video: Paper Plane Zoetrope + Making of

5

Andras Ormos just shared this video of a Zoetrope, with a cool little story inside it. I really liked the 'paper' feel of the entire scene, enjoy!

Andras writes:

I was really inspired by this Victorian era invention called the Zoetrope that produces the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of different poses. I wanted to try if I can recreate the same effect in CG and also if I can tell a simple story with a bit of a twist at the end. I used Blender for modeling, shading, rendering and also animated the camera in it. When I made this, I was still new to Blender, so I had to use Maya for the character rigging and animation. The character models were created by my friend and colleague Tamas Kurdi. Going forward, I'm going to do everything inside Blender as it’s so much more artist friendly than any other 3D software. I've been converted! :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Absolutely stunning. The design of the model, the shots and camera movement, the concept. Insane! I love this so much!
