Hi all,

We're looking to expand, and need some people on a contract basis to do some work with us.

We're in need of a photogrammetry artist, who will work remotely, collect photo scans and convert them into 3d files. You will be paid per rock, ranging between $10 and $70 dependent on rock size (more details supplied when you apply).

We need a texture artist who will photograph textures for us, convert them into seamless images and extract maps from them (the software will be supplied to do this) Price will be paid at $5 to $10 per map set, dependant on experience and how quickly you can turn around the work.

And we finally need a nature artist, who will be solely creating assets like Trees, and grass for us. All textures will need to be made by this person, so if you're making some trees, we expect you to take photos of the bark and scan the leaves front and back. Pay for these varies dependant upon again experience. However, expect in the region of $20 to 50$ per asset.

Anyone who applies and is successful will be given access to a remote server where you will store your finished products.

Work will be as and when needed, however, we are in need of large libraries quickly, so you will be guaranteed work for the next 3 months.

Please contact us by email at [email protected].

Please provide links to your portfolios and a short message around your experience. We aim to reply back within 3 working days. We will reply to everyone, and anyone unsuccessful will be kept on file and contacted if additional work is needed.

Thanks,

Rich

    • Hi Biensur,

      Thanks for getting in touch.

The people this is aimed at will have a specific workflow where they can complete several models a day. Earning around 500 dollars a week for working in their spare time. People wanting to do this full time would be working toward 10 to 30 assets a week mixing in trees, grass, etc.

I'm sorry if you feel offended by the prices advised, however we have had several responses regarding this article already, and the people we're currently working with, seem happy enough with the financial rewards for their hard work.

      Kind regards

      Richard @ True VFX

      • $500 a week seem's still low on this market. People having Houdini and Reality Capture pipeline, doing a lot of scans and processing it with multiple gpu already have a place in the market, and sell it 10$ to 70$ not to one person, but to hundreds.

        • HI AMCGI

This is correct, there are people selling these assets for this amount, to 100s of people.

They're not selling it to thousands of people, and they're isolating a massive part of the market for hobbyists and new artists who cannot afford $70 per rock.

What I'm offering, is guaranteed work for people in a market that's taken a hit, and I'm creating libraries that ANYONE can afford and access.

I'm not by any means disregarding your point. However we've responded to over 30 people who've contacted regarding this and have accepted 8 people who can do the work.

$500 extra dollars a week is a big difference to some people. We're in a position where we can give artists that money which could be a huge help, and we're also building a library that will allow people to create work at a cost that doesn't break the bank.

          Thank you for your comments.

          • Thank you for this answer, you make a point and I apologize for the tone of my previous message, it is true that not all pay levels are the same everywhere.

if it's not a full time job, then ok, it is a cool 500 "extra" $

  1. I sent you guys an E-mail, but I also wanted to publicly thank you for promising to respond to everyone -- so many times we email someone looking for talent and never hear back -- I appreciate you taking the time to observe the professional niceties

  2. $70 for a photogrammetry rock seems pretty generous, given that it takes about 30 minutes and you don't even have to design the rock yourself, just photograph it from various angles. You could probably do 4 rocks at a time too.

I don't know why someone needs perfect documentation of a rock though. You could make hundreds of rocks procedurally and they'd look just as good.

    • Hi John,

You're right, procedural rocks are also something we've been working on. But so far we can only do that per software, for example we can make assets for blender, but those can't be transferred to something like unreal engine without baking everything out.

Ideally the goal is to provide artists with a quick, easy and affordable way to create the content they want.

Thanks for getting involved in the discussion. It's always great to hear several sides of the same conversation.
