Reel: Monica Eggert

11

Monica is an animator from Barcelona. She shared her fantastic reel that contains work she did as part of her training at Pepe School Land. You can find more of her work on her website.

Monica writes:

Almost everything was made in Blender, only the animations of the characters in the "Character Selection" shot were made in Maya (those are Malcolm, Mery, Bonnie and Morpheus).

All rendering was done in Eevee, even the shots with the Maya characters (I exported them with Alembic).

All 2D animation was made with Grease Pencil :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Amazing :)!
Love how you combine skills of 2D, 3D and animations in such a complete and fun story about creating a demo reel!
    Super quality!

  2. This is amazing! Especially the "Mònica" Character is so vivid and adorable! I love the emotional rollercoaster from MORE DRAMA to the "inspirational musical song". So good!!

Thank you for making my day!

  3. I thought it was funny that the only real person in the piece was the most stylized :) And totally adorable, at that; I loved the flailing of her arms during the iceskater/robot shot. A masterful job of broadcasting the main character's emotional state at every point, and it even taught me something about the craft: a work is never really finished in the eyes of its creator, it's kind of scary to present your work to the world, and in the end you have to have confidence in your ability. Bravo... really, really well done.
