NodeScapes: Terrain creation in Blender just levelled up!

Richard @ True-VFX writes:

Creating terrains will always be a big part of CG. Character artists use them as backdrops; ArchVis artists use them to sell the realism of their work; Environment artists... Well, they should be using them for their environments?

That's where NodeScapes comes in!

We've been helping people create environments for over 2 years now with True-Terrain, and even though it's a great tool (it is, trust us) It was always only ever meant for finishing off your Terrains. We added materials, shaders, particle systems, mixing tools... all to add the finishing touch to your vast mountain scenes. But, it was never made for making your Terrains, which is why a lot of users (and they've told us) liked to bring their terrains in from somewhere else. That one cut deep.

So, we decided to do something about it. And then NodeScapes was born!

NodeScapes is a 'built from the ground', custom node based tool, designed for the landscape artist in you.

It's a fully procedural, non-destructive workflow, that allows limitless possibilities with all it's node functions.

You can start with a preset, add some thermal erosion, use a mix node to put some mountains in, use a curve node to create custom shapes; use a fall-off node to mask the surrounding geometry, add a step node and give it a 'bounce' bezier curve to create moats around your cliffs. Want to start with a displacement map? You can do that too. Want to hand paint some rivers? Paint either a vertex group, or using the texture paint tool, use the weight node to plug into a mix factor, use the image node to bring your texture map in and use it as a subtraction value.

The possibilities, are, endless!

We're doing a discount for launch, as we're releasing it in beta (don't worry, this isn't a *redacted* 2077 situation) So you can grab it for $33 dollars now (price will increase to $50 at version 1.0)

Checkout NodeScapes here.

Heck, while you're at it, check out the first tutorial and see if it's up your alley!

It's always a pleasure bringing new tools to this great community, and this time, we think we've hit the nail on the head with this one!

Much love, stay safe

    • Hey there,

No NOT at all. True Terrain is still being developed for, and NodeScapes is simply a new way to create Terrains using a node based system.

True terrain will continue have features added, new materials and will have a bridge tool to intergrate it into NodeScapes.
