New Features and Changes

Blender 2.92

  • Next week we switch to BCon3.
  • Julian Eisel is considering making the asset browser an experimental feature for 2.92. He feels it still needs too much polishing to be ready in time. Final decision to be made next week.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    • Blender should do the big scene release. For example, focusing on the extreme example for small resources pc computer against large blender resources. Does blender recovers and heal itself and not hang or crash.

      1. What happen when nvidia card ram reach the limit when rendering
      2. What happen to blender when sculpt models become to dense.
      3. What happen when overflow scenario happens on slow, low cheaper computers. E.g. large texture, large fluid and cloth simulations, large number of boxes, large everything.

      • And what happens to the large number of tabs when a lot of plugins are installed. Why don't developers think of these scenarios. Same with the asset browser. What happens if theres too much resources, too many textures too many models There's scenarios like these everywhere in Blender.

  1. They should focus a bit more on 'data management' for groups of more than one person.
Integrating Blender in a VFX pipeline still is a pain in the behind due to missing tools and options.
The whole file management system lacks compared to other applications.

Now with the asset manager it is time to address these issues, including more options to use environment variables etc. in startup files or scripts.
And last but not least, some proper tools to manage linked files. It's all over the place and hard to use when you want to change things.
