Lighting in Wait (Kenan Proffitt Short Film)

Film synopsis: The Keeper of the Light fights for the survival and protection of his village.

Hey Blender Community! I wanted to share my latest short film with everyone since the VFX in the film were created using Blender. This was a week long endeavor, so I had to approach it with a minimalistic mindset to see if I could tell a story with a small crew and a few defined VFX shots. The speed of Blender was an absolute key for this project. I was able to model, texture, light, render and composite everything all together to achieve my final look, while staying within my time-frame. Hope you enjoy!

  1. I love the concept and the effects are good! I like the sense of mystery. Good work my friend! My one critique is that it almost feels too mysterious so we don't know what the danger is or the stakes are. I think even some screaming sound effects coming from the distance from both other victims, and/or the threat, especially in the dark scenes, would heighten the sense of danger (and be very easy to add in.) I guessed/understood that the green lights meant something potentially dangerous. Again, I like the mystery of not knowing exactly what it is, but I feel like I needed something to make me fear it. But just my 2 cents from one filmmaker to another, take it for what it's worth!

  2. Very nice concept. I agree with the previous comment. Something got you, but I was left wondering how the light towers were associated with it.
