This is the eigth maintenance release in the 2.83 LTS series, bringing the total number of fixes to more than 175 so far. The 2.83 LTS program is expected to be maintained until 2022.
Blender's LTS program runs alongside the regular Blender releases (Blender 2.91 has just entered Beta!), and provides long term support for one stable version of Blender to allow studios and individuals to finish big productions without having to swap versions to benefit from bug updates. It would be great to see some statistics on downloads for LTS vs. New Feature branch (Current from both) to see the uptake.
