GSoC 2020 Overview: Liquid Simulation Display Options

0

Sriharsha Kotcharlakot’s GSoC project, Liquid Simulation Display Options, was mentored by Sebastián Barschkis and Jacques Lucke. This project aimed to add more informative display options for fluid simulations in the viewport’s Workbench engine.

Sriharsha managed to implement, among other things:

-Flag Grid Display, here seen with gridlines:

-Vector Display, with MAC grid visualization options for vector fields

There are many more examples of the different displays and their use cases on this project's "Weekly Reports" thread on Devtalk, as well as the project's final report.

The patch is ready and is set to land in the latest Blender 2.91 builds imminently, so keep an eye out!

This post is part of a series overviewing the various Google Summer of Code 2020 projects.
Every year, google funds students over the summer to work for open source projects.
This year, Google has granted 10 projects for the Blender Foundation. The students behind these projects are assigned mentors from the Blender development team, which follow their progress over the summer and then assess their work. All of the GSoC 2020 projects have successfully passed their mentors’ evaluations!
