    • Hi Richard,

Why so negative? I am an addon developer myself and worked hard for two years every day on my own addons. And it didn't even come up my mind what you are thinking of. Instead I find this developer and his addon deserves success because I can see he knows what he is doing. That's why I even think to provide voucher codes of my products exclusively for the Tchat addon. I review nearly every day addons, and if an addon is not good, I tell it straight to the developer what I think.

Developers can also create a room, offer support and promote their products (for example with a voucher code). Maybe they should cancel the internet because via internet work can be pirated? I think you make a false premise here.

      • I'm not being negative. I'm just very aware of what this addons could do.

I develop addons myself, and this offers a service where users do not need to mask their IP address. They are on a service that cannot be taken down due to potential piracy, whereas any website can if reported for piracy.

The risk with this is fairly large in my opinion, and it seems that the developer has overlooked that potential. I'm not disputing that this isn't a great addon for social purposes and the potential for collaboration is brilliant. But the downside is that, anyone can log into this unmonitored, untraceable service and share peoples work.

    • No, asset sharing is for Blender assets like meshes, materials etc... You cannot just send an addon as if it were an asset.

Using file sharing you can send whatever file you want but like anyother chat software, so, no, the Blender Tchat will never be itself a way of pirating like you say. At least no more than emails, discord, Facebook, etc...

      • Yes but Facebook and discord are monitored, people's channels can be taken down.

Is that possible here? Do you have any anti-piracy practices in place?

Websites themselves can be reported and removed for piracy, however this service seems off radar in that respect. And with it being developed for an open source software, your addon thus becomes open source, and anyone can change the code and use it for malicious purposes. Is their not a risk of someone being able to send a malicious file to another user, pretending it's a material or mesh, and then that users computer is compromised?

    • I agree. A client-like plugin to an existing (free/opensource/federated) social network would be much more transparent, controlable etc.
