The Mixer add-on, which has been released as alpha code on GitHub, allows Blender users to work together in one scene. This can be both on a local network, but also remotely (in which case you'll need to do some network setup).
It works by creating 'rooms' on the Mixer server that you can join for specific projects.
Ubisoft writes:
Mixer is a Blender addon developed at Ubisoft Animation Studio for Real Time Collaboration in 3D edition. It allows multiple Blender users to work on the same scene at the same time. Thanks to a broadcasting server that is independent from Blender, it is also possible to implement a connection for other 3D editing softwares.

this Mixer and another addon called multi user are most important addons for blender ever i saw in my ~ 7 years of "blender life" and i following every day blender news, addons, development and etc...
tryed them both now and looks like both addons and both addons missing very little to be perfect ! so super exiting times awaiting with that multiplayer blender... i saw both addons are beeing developed very actively.
i only dream now they would work together for faster development
i really think blender devs should immediatly start help / develop it too since this is even much more bigger of importance than any new blender feature ever i saw...
so for everyone i say just try this MIXER and MULTI USER addons since they unbelieveable revolutionary AMAZING !!!
Blender actually had an addon that did this about 12 years ago called Blender Verse. It was alpha stages but they released a build with it 2.47 or 2.48. I'm super excited to see this again.
anyone have a video or a walk through on how to get this to run, I am trying with a friend adn we dont know how to connect to each other or if we have to setup a server
here is the forum discussion https://blenderartists.org/t/multi-user/1187118/68
just join discord server . you can get easily help there.

i really sorry everyone... made HUGE MISTAKE, because my excitement i forgot to mention that:
THIS DISCORD SERVER INVITATION LINK IS NOT FOR MIXER ACTUALLY. ITS FOR MULTI USER ADDON
(after you have installed and activated the add-on)Firstly the two of you have to be using the same blender version, then you should be connected to the same network. press the 'n' button on your keyboard and select mixer, then click on connect and one of you should create room while the other should connect to the room.
Bye bye 3DS Max - this plugin alone will make several companies dump the overpriced Autodesk tool once and forever.
We're getting there. Blender still needs friendlier support of some standards like FBX--or the industry will need to adopt newer standards to replace FBX soon.
That will take time. Sadly, Autodesk pipelines are still king. Both in 3D-related education and professional industry.
But this is a great step towards industry-wider adoption of Blender-based pipelines. So good to see more and more powerful steps taken by major companies in Blender's favor.
FBX is a disaster. Blender has more friendlier support for this ugly format than, say, Houdini. Looking forward to better Alembic support (like line rendering), and full USD support.
Oh, I do 100% agree! But FBX is still in heavy use, industry-wide. Particularly in fields like game dev (which, of course, Ubisoft does).
Newer, better formats (such as Alembic) are around and emerging, but it takes a little time to wean schools and businesses alike off heavy dependency on Autodesk's proprietary nonsense.
The transition from Autodesk-dependency to Blender pipelines will be more like a growing process than a "dumping" of Autodesk, is what I'm saying.
But, boy, are many people ready! ;)
Totally agree. Despite is flaws, FBX did much to popularize 3D, mainly for gamedev. BTW a fun fact - official Autodesk FBX Converter software is broken, can't even properly export complex hierarchies without messing up pivots.
Does anybody knows if Ubisoft is releasing the Server too?
I mean the source code...
The server source code is in the addon so yes :)
Thanks Dee!
It seems very much like what PocketStudio is doing?
Do you know if Pocket Studio open source?
I don't think it is at the moment, but for what I can see on their website, it's free))
I have just tried it after i saw this message, and this software is really cool. it's bloody fast simple &d fun to use... it's odd there's no info about anywhere?
Looks kool! But setting up a network to use online sounds a bit tricky. Have you heard of Massless Space? Someone mentioned it in a Discord channel... multi-user synchronizing between Blender, Unity and Chrome.
Quick update on Mixer: it has been significantly improved since last summer. It is now officially in version 1.0 and has a full documentation. Give it a new try here:

Has anybody tried pocketstudio?
