Cosmos Laundromat Episode 2 Canceled

16

Ton just posted an update on the plans for the planned second episode of Cosmos Laundromat. This 'reboot' was supposed to be the next part in an even longer series, but this requires strong stories and ties between them. Developing such a script proved to be too big and complex task for this moment, and the episode was canceled.

This may not mean the end of the project though... Read Ton's full announcement to find out why.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. It's good to cancel it. All the characters are no good. The orange hair man should have let the 'I feel sorry for myself' sheep kill himself. Why let him enter another body to experience something better?

  2. Bit cheesy and all, also plastic parts of laundromats are too squeaky clean and have too much reflectivity to the point of creepiness...
BUT it was intriguing AF! Many shots were plain awesome! Just like the idea itself of using out-of-body experience to to have complete freedom of creativity in showing what you've got! Also the parallels, the metaphor. Nothing is perfect, but this can be really good.

  3. Not to downplay Spring, because it's really cool, but I actually thought the creativity behind Cosmos Laundromat was way more expansive. Again, I like them both but I like the seemingly-greater creative options with Cosmos Laundromat. And I really like some of the earlier releases too, like Big Buck Bunny and especially Sintel.

All that to say, I hope they do come back to Cosmos Laundromat someday.

  4. LOL!
The only work with a real story is cancelled... I mean there is nothing wrong with not-so-serious works but at least finish a single work with a worthy story first...

    • This film resonated with me, all people need sometimes is a little push into the right direction. A minute of time can save a life.

That's unfortunate. I loved the serious tone and visuals of this one. I do get it, though. Immediately after release it was criticized for all the seriousness. Hope they will come back to it.

I love short film animations. The music along with the out of body experience, entering the washing machine moment was absolutely beautiful. I was really hoping for more. It's hard to believe they ran out of ideas for this. Each life could have had a significant meaning in love and learning to love one's self. This had so much potential. Please come back to this some day.

    How sad.
I'm at a point in my life where (I'm sorry to say) but I am feeling suicidal and upon seeing this thought to myself, now this might be something that could give me that spark back.
Sadly, just like the reality of life... Anything helpful is cancelled,so regrettably that Pandora's Box hope dissipates into the nothingness that hope actually is.
    Go figure

Can't help but wonder if the creators original vision had the positive intention I was hoping to find in part 2.

  8. I loved it so much one of the few things on Netflix o actually liked o loved the idea and the story I was really hoping to see how it plays out, please finish the project.

  9. What I took from this is that Franck really died and the devil met him and for his sin the devil tricked him like the sheep he is into living the worst fate of all, eternal life. Which is what Franck was trying to escape from. Would really like to see some other life cycles of Franck’s to help people understand who they really are though.
