Hello everybody,

my name is Marco Dima and I belong to an Italian research institute, namely the Astronomical Observatory of Padova, of the National institute of Astrophysics or INAF We often use Blender to show our ideas or astronomical instrumentation in several meetings and occasions.

As it often happens in Italy, a lot of institutions are housed in an historical building. Our observatory is not an exception and is located in an old castle, refurbished in the 1777s as astronomical observatory by Paduan astronomers of that era!

Time ago we have purchased a 360deg camera with the idea to properly record the beautiful rooms in our castle. We have then temporarily dropped out such efforts because of some technical problem, as we were not yet fully satisfied of the quality of the images.

In this period of coronavirus, where everything is locked down, including museums, we have decided to show anyway the beautiful rooms of the castle. We made this work remotely, in a few days, taking all the raw material stored in our hard disk and thanks to sites like “Blend Swap” we have created a cinema adding pop corn and cans; we created the light effect of the projector and so on. After that, with the Blender video editing, we have mounted the movie and the audio.

This is the link where is possible to watch it, now with english captioning.
