Video: What's inside the Space Needle?

Here's a tour of the Space Needle in Seattle Washington. I bought the 3D model from Turbo Squid but then I heavily modified it and added the inside layouts. This was super fun to make! What building should I animate next?

  1. Good info. good animation but really that needle has only a few dining table? no office work is done there.. are they grounded for corona? ;P

    • There's a few more tables than that but yeah I had to simplify a little bit for the animation. And yes, as far as I know the Space Needle is shut down right now.

  2. GREAT video and narration, Owen. So much so that I fear a visit will actually be a disappointment. (And you're not getting me anywhere near those clear floors.)

A couple questions (as a Blender newbie):

    1) Did you make the entire video with Blender?
    2) What do you consider to be your favorite/essential add-ons to make this video?

    • Hi Kurt - thanks for your kind words!
Yes I made the entire video with Blender - even the video editing.
I don't really use any addons besides "Node Wrangler" - and even then I don't use it that much.
Just lots of tutorials to learn how to animate.

    • Great question. Most of the time I do it with the material nodes and a little math. I use a transparent node mixed with the principled BSDF. I have used the boolean modifier in the past but when your mesh is too dense it can really slow blender down. Thanks for watching my video!

  3. Hi Jared,

This is super cool. I'm just getting started with Blender I'm so stoked to find out that you too actually use Blender. I've been seeing your videos for some time and the video on the swivel fan etc were all really cool.

    • Thanks for your comment! Most people don't realize how much cool stuff blender is capable of - hopefully my videos will help change people's minds! Good luck learning blender
