Reconstruction of Coronavirus SARS-COV-2 using Blender and ePMV

Our medical animation studio, Alpha Tauri 3D Graphics (https://alphatauri3d.com/) reconstructed SARS-CoV-2, formerly known as 2019-nCoV, the virus responsible for COVID-19 disease.
We conducted research on protein crystal structures available on Protein Data Bank. Structures of three surface proteins were imported into Blender using ePMV – embedded Python Molecular Viewer and used as objects in the hair particle system. We also used phospholipid molecules to build a lipid bilayer of the virus. We used electron microscopy images as a rough shape and protein distribution reference. Here’s a closeup:

Tasty!
This is a nice chronologically ordered list. It’s too bad it did not include an actual comparison.
