Development News: Sculpt - Cloth brush

18

Pablo Dobarro has just added a cloth simulator to his sculpting tools allowing for 'sculpting' super realistic cloth. Check out the video!

This brush has a simple physics solver that helps when sculpting cloth (which is one of the hardest things to do in any sculpting software).

The mass and the damping of the simulation properties of the brush. It has 4 deformation modes that control how the forces are created.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Oh my god, sculpt functions in Blender are developing at such a fast pace, thanks to Pablo Dobarro. True power of open source and the community revealed. Great job and please continue Pablo.

  2. Said it several years ago: If Blender's Sculpt Mode got some serious love, it'd be one of the biggest steps towards wider industry integration. (Because sculpting is pretty essential to the 3D creation process, nowadays.)

This isn't just a step in the right direction--it's ahead of the curve. Nice job! Thank you for the brilliant hard work!

    • It's funny--I once suggested to Pixologic to make a drapery mode, so that one can sculpt clothing in ZBrush (that is, if you have access to ZBrush).

Never once thought of simply using a cloth sculpt brush! So clever!

  3. I tried to download the latest version of Blender alpha to use this, but I guess it's not out yet... Can't wait till it is! I'm super excited about this feature!
