I've released some new features for the Shape Generator on Blender Market which hopefully will be useful:

Animation with Animation Nodes

You can now also use the Shape Generator as a node in the popular Blender Animation Nodes framework by Jackes Lucke.

This will give you the following key features:

  • Animate shape generation and parameters.
  • Dynamically change shapes in real time and save parameters for the future.

To make this work with Animation Nodes, an installation guide is available here, but if you have any issues do not hesitate to contact me via the 'Contact Creator' button on my Blender Market page.

UV Mapping:

I have also added better UV Mapping capability for the Shape Generator. Using Blender's Smart UV Project feature, a generated shape will automatically have a UV Map created for editing.

Future work

I am also working on similar features for the Plating Generator with Greebles add-on (link: https://a.blendernation.com/go/go.php?src=BN&url=https://blendermarket.com/products/plating-generator), which combined with the Shape Generator will allow you to create even more sophisticated effects in the future:

I will also be adding a similar feature for the Curves To Mesh add-on (link: https://a.blendernation.com/go/go.php?src=BN&url=https://blendermarket.com/products/curves-to-mesh) among other things:

In other news, I am working on a procedural texture which will give you an alternative way of creating plating patterns using Blender's latest displacement features:
