Hi all!

Christmas is coming and so it’s time for magic and presents! Today we are happy to kick off an open beta for FaceBuilder for Blender! In essence, FaceBuilder is an easy-to-use and handy tool for face likeness sculpting based on several photos. It doesn’t need any additional hardware, produces clean topology and it's already battle proved in Nuke.

We tried hard to make the UI and UX as convenient and native for Blender as possible, but if you get in a muddle please check out the tutorial.

Also we are dying to get your feedback and thoughts! So please let us know what you think!

Really nice and super cool! But at that price its more kind of a tool for a studio. I find these prics a bit insane for an addon. I understand it takes time, but this is almost in the same area as standalone render engines.

    • $149? I think that is quite okay if you make money with it. It is a tool, and a specialist tool at that.
Now as Blender users we are so lucky to have a free and extremely powerful platform - but not everything is life is free or has to be free.

        • It depends, I did some face replacement in blender and it took me a lot of time. If they release a bundle with the face tracker it would let you do something in a day that you would do in a week without the addon.

Personal usage is not really usable i think, you cant do anything with such a license. I get it for a company $300 perhaps isnt much. But as a hobbyist i find these prices just insane for a thing which is good for just 1 thing.

I understand they need to make money and have probably invested a lot of time. Perhaps consider what different companies do and offer.

Ive also seen actually how it works. it takes a lot of tedious work from your hands. But $300 for this?!

Sorry i made a mistake by assuming what the personal license meant. In there case you can do commercial work with it. Most times personal means no commercial work.

Perhaps they should think about renaming it business and hobbyist or something more meaningful.

Now $150 does make more approachable for "regular people

          MY issue solved ;)

    • Then have fun paying each year for something you could perfectly get by without. Hate to break it to you, but once they've added a face tracker, it'll cost you a couple grand more dude. I know it's Christmas time, but they are not that generous.

        • It doesn't really matter as long as you have capable alternatives which are either free or cheap. Take a few pictures, throw them into Meshroom, export a 3d scan to Blender, buy Softwrap for 40 bucks at blendermarket, wrap a generic head onto your 3d scan and you're done. No subscription, no hassle, job done!

As far as FaceTracker goes, you can use Face Cap instead. After installing it on your iPhone, make a DIY camera rig, capture your facial expressions, export blendshapes to Blender, plug the animation data into the M.O.M add-on. Heck, you can even capture motion with pretty much vanilla Blender. Check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNK8S19OSmA&feature=emb_rel_pause

        • since the price is reasonable for you could you purchase this add-on for me? i can pay you back later when i am able to make money from selling my art created with this addon

  2. Not sure if hidden upcharges down the road. However a monthly fee of $149/12 mos. is not so bad,
$13.50 for hobbyists and starting freelancers, etc.

  3. I thinks its insane to pay 150 bucks every 12 months, then again I'm only a casual Blender user. I might mess with humans heads once every few months. I do wish there was a basic no thrills version that people like me could use. I still can't get over spending 150 bucks every year. I really wish we could go back to the old days and just pay for the program and its yours, then if they come out with updates or a new release you could buy that one.
