Hi there,
my name is Charles Hétier, I just want to share my first blender fully procedural shader: A 3 layers rope shader. You can get the v0.1 for free on my newly created Gumroad page.
I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I had fun creating it. You can use it for any model and any purpose. I would enjoy in return seeing what you guys, would be able to do with it, or maybe a cool tip or advice, or a little something? :-)
(Sorry for my average English...)

Nice Work Man! , One thing though? I can't make it work with version 2.80 so I open the file in 2.81 and had an issue with displacement and go to edit mode and object mode again and the mapping over the modifiers worked fine. It would be better too if you could make a video demonstrating your node group!
I BlendPhil, thanks a lot for your kind comment and your feedbacks, I really appreciate. Point by point:
- I should indeed have precised it was a 2.81 blender file, my bad, I take the point for the next one!
- I have the same issue with the displacement when I open the file (need to edit and go back to object mode). I honestly don't know what to do with this, I neither don't know if it's an issue from my material or with blender itself...
- I'll spend time to add a video with some explanations soon (hopefully)... any software suggestion for recording? :-)
Also, it's a v0.1, depending on whether I am able to create a v0.2 or maybe a v1 version soon, I may make the video on the latest version instead :-)
Cool!
I like to use OBS software :-)
OBS looks awesome, I didn't know it. Again thanks!
This version was Straightforward awesome already and just works well it simply just works! OBS Studio was definitely your go!
That's very kind of you, thank you!! :-) OBS studio looks awesome, I'll give it a try
Maybe the problem with the adaptive subdivisions, in early tutorials Someon said, that you have to tap double tab to refresh. (edit mode and back)
Nice work, though I have the same issue as BlendPhil. A video breakdown / tut would be nice :-)
Thank you very much Martin. Like I said to BlendPhil, I should indeed have precised it was a 2.81 blender file, sorry for that.
And if I didn't publish another version of the material soon I'll add a video as suggested (if you know a software it could use for recording my screen? :-))... or at least some additional explanations!!
hi is there a video explaining this rope shader
Nice job, very clever !
Thanks a lot for sharing !
Hi. I'm trying to use this shading on ropes created with GeometryNodes(Blender 3.2). When I open your file it works but after appending your Rope node group into my own project. the twisting effect doesn't work. I can't get it to work. Is it with Dimentions? or Subdivision? or what?
thanks a lot
