Darkfall VFX Nodes Add-on (Version 1.5)

In this video we will be looking at Version 1,5 of the Free Add-on, Darkfall VFX Nodes.

We have two new additions to the Tool Panel and that's the 2D Planar Tool and the Subsurface Skin Node.

With the 2D Planar tool we can add a image or texture to our actor and with the Drop Shadow Option we can make the effect look as though it is close to the surface or as if it sinks into the actors face.

The Subsurface Skin Node is similar to the 2D Planar but is specifically for the Subsurface Skin effect. We did a Tutorial on the Subsurface Skin Effect you can check out the Blender Nation post Here: https://www.blendernation.com/2018/10/31/sub-surface-skin-vfx/

With the Subsurface Skin Node, we can speed up the workflow of this effect and focus on the important stuff.

I should note, the Footage I used was from Hollywood Camera Work website.

If you are recording the footage yourself, I would make sure to keep the size of the Markers on your actors face down to a minimum. Blender does a great job with tracking and the markers in the Example footage are far too big.

Another thing to note, is that there are far too many tracking markers, for this example we only need Four tracking markers for this effect to work.

Finally, in most cases you need to make sure the Tracking markers move together and keep their distance the same throughout the clip. If one tracking marker (or more) move away from each other, you will find that your mask and the image texture will move (as it does in the example video).

It can sometimes look good and add to the effect, almost as if the skin is stretching along with the movement.

So, for the best results I would make sure to keep the Markers size down, keep the amount of markers down and make sure they keep their distance and don't move away from each other.

I hope you find these additions useful and I hope you are enjoying this Add-on!. As always thanks for reading!.
