Steam Engineering explained using a animated traction engine

Teddy T. writes:

Have you ever wondered how steam- you know, those hot whisps of steam coming out of your morning coffee can be used to drive a massive train? Here's a fully animated in Blender video that goes over the engineering behind steam engines!

The video took about a month to animate and every night to render. I rigged the models for an exploded view, but for one of the future videos, I'll rig the models so that the mechanisms and linkages are accurate.

I am an engineer that wants to get others excited about engineering as well. I worked 8 years as an electrical and mechanical engineer on subsystems in machines that make microchips, specifically on Ion Implanters. I want to inspire others to get into engineering, so I decided to learn Blender. Eventually, I left my engineering job so I could make high-quality educational engineering videos for YouTube. My hobbies are: cooking, inner tube water polo, frisbee, and lindy hop dancing.
